Edward Snowden, noted advocate of freedom of speech and press, defender of open and transparent government, has applied for asylum from Vladimir Putin.
I wouldn't mind if he were a bit more honest, and not such a self-righteous hypocrite.
Look where he ran to first (China) and the places he's been talking about going to (Ecuador, where they just passed a law to shut down the free press; Venezuela, where they did so several years ago; and Cuba and Russia).
If he just said, "I did it because I hate the US (or "because I hate the US government") and so I'm going to seek asylum in a country that shares my views" then I'd be OK with it. He's being honest. But to claim to be a lover of freedom and then go to those places ...
